Music, food, and friends: the ingredients to the perfect prom night, all of which were present at the 2012 Prom at the Omni Hotel downtown. The event was held on Saturday, June 2 with the theme, “A Night in Paris.” France was in the atmosphere—from the Eiffel Tower backdrop for the photos to centerpieces of the iconic tower at every table.
Dinner was served as soon as students walked into the ballroom. The appetizer included salad and buttered rolls, while the entrée consisted of seasoned grilled chicken or fish with rice pilaf and a vegetable lasagna option for vegetarians. For dessert, the waiters served delectable slices of raspberry cheesecake covered in mango and raspberry sauce and chocolate mousse. After eating and enjoying conversations with friends, many Seniors took to the dance floor and got down
Four-hundred-fifty six Seniors and their guests attended the event, flocking to the hotel near Little Tokyo to enjoy a memorable night. The music was provided by DJ Wizz Kid, which came as a surprise since the class expected music to be provided by the usual DJ Vision.
Around 11 p.m, the prom court was called up to the dance floor and the King and Queen were announced. Leonardo Foley won the title of King and Brigitte Fong won the crown for Prom Queen. Voting for the titles was held on Wednesday, May 30 in the Grove. As is tradition, the King and Queen took the stage after the announcement and slow-danced. Soon enough, the dance floor was packed with dozens of couples. After the slow dancing was over, the Senior slideshow was presented.
Pictures from Senior year submitted by students were put together and played for everyone to watch in a powerpoint format, as songs by fun. and the White Stripes played in the background. Students felt that it was an excellent way to commemorate the last year of high school.
The “Night in Paris” was magical for everyone. Seniors Edgar Mendez and Michael Binyam both agreed that, “The venue was beautiful and the food was delicious.”
Prom is an event many Seniors anticipate for years, and the wait was worth it for most of the class. As they say, “We’ll always have Paris…”
