The freshman year has been very memorable, and as summer approaches, the freshman class is ready to rise.
On May 1, the freshman class held its own chapel to share thoughts and ideas about the journey through high school life. Appropriately, the theme was “New Beginning.” The upperclassmen welcomed the freshmen with great applause. The freshmen shared their thoughts, feelings, and emotions about the school year that they went through. As they related their beginning year of high school to Bible verses, the audience was able to reflect in depth about their own feelings and ideas.
The freshmen were apprehensive about starting the high school year. Ryan Chung (9) said, “We are at the bottom of the pyramid instead of top.” During the year, we were bombarded by Community & Service reflections, the MYP personal project, and test after test.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “You may delay, but time will not.” Freshmen learn this the hard way by struggling with procrastination. The majority of freshmen students procrastinated on the Community & Service activity, finishing their reflections in the last hour.
During the journey we were lucky to meet upperclassmen. The freshmen class met their mentors in variety of ways: sharing classes, playing sports, and working together in plays. Through such opportunities to interact with upperclassmen, we built lots of trust amongst one another. Abby Kim (9) said, “It was a great year to get to know all the upperclassmen as well as teachers!”
The freshmen faced many challenges. The freshmen class had to go through many hardships through the year, but they overcame the challenges and now we are safely ending the year. Although the road ahead is filled with uncertainty, the freshmen are confident enough to take the next step forward.
