At-a-glance

Another day, another red pen. -

This school year has come and gone in a blink of an eye. We have all made memories that will never leave us.
One of my own unforgettable experiences has been my opportunity to be this year's Paw Prints editor.    It was a tough year having several first-year journalism students, but we continued to progress despite any difficulties that came our way.
Without my all-girl staff, this paper would not have been half as successful as it was. I can not show them how much I appreciate their hard work throughout the year.
One dilemma we faced was not having one class where we were all together. I had a few reporters who I did not get to have the chance to see every day in class. These were the ones I depended on the most.
Jessica Vincent, our librarian, came and went when she pleased. Her organization kept our library together and ready when needed. She also brought her creativity to the our bulletin board.
Her writing skill has a lot of potential. I saw her grow a little with each story, and I know as she continues to write, she will only improve.
Aspynn Kaderka was the lone reporter in the second journalism class. I could always depend on her to write thorough stories and turn them in on time.
For a first-year journalism reporter, her writing was always creative and strong. I was very proud of how much she progressed throughout the year.
Now for my journalism class. So many jokes were made, stories were told, and moments captured. Not a day went by without having a good laugh in this class.
We shared the period with creative writing students, Alex Martinez and Wesley Mattice. Their creative insight helped us when we drew a blank.
Our class would not have been the same without Wesley's strange O.C.D. habits and Alex's famous words “I'm not done” and “I don't think I like it.”
But the real stars of the class were my reporters, Raquel Luna and Lorena Lizardo.     Raquel, also known as Giggles, kept the class giggling with her contagious laugh. She also was the reason behind our fashionable Journalism Top Hat.
As another first-year journalism student, I was very impressed with the quality of her stories. Raquel quickly caught on to what was wanted of her, and her stories improved with each issue as well.
The one exception to the first-year students was my only senior, Lorena. She did whatever she was asked to do: sports, elementary, highlights and so much more. Not to mention, she gets credit for all of the beautiful pictures that were taken this year.
She is the only third-year journalism student, and her experience showed in her writing. Every story had a unique feel and quality to it; I never knew what to expect.
I can not explain how much I will miss Lorena next year; her stories and her presence. As the only senior on the staff, I want to wish you good luck. Whatever you choose to do in your life, I know you are strong enough to get through anything.
The transition between reporter and editor this year was different than I expected. Although it was tough at some moments, I do not regret anything that happened this year at the Paw Prints.
I have realized how much of a family we have become this year. We have told stories from the good ole days and made new friends like Helga. And the entire time we were having a good time.
None of this would have been possible without our most wonderful adviser, Mrs. Essay (or to the ordinary folk, Mrs. Bassett). She shared our laughs but kept us in line with that intimidating glare of hers.
Mrs. Bassett, thank for giving me the opportunity to be this year's editor. Thank you, staff, for always being there for me with your stories and words of advice. And thank you, Paw Prints readers, for showing your appreciation of the hard work our staff has done this year.
