Fourteen cheerleaders cheered their hearts out at the Granger Lion football games this year. Kelly Johnson stood out and was chosen as this issue’s Cheerleader of the Month.
“Kelly is a very talented young lady,” said cheer sponsor Louise Thornton. “She was voted All-American Cheerleader at cheer camp which was well deserved.”
Johnson is active in many different activities: volleyball; basketball; track; National Honor Society (N.H.S.); Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (F.C.C.L.A.); and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (F.C.A.).
“Kelly is a great leader and has great character,” said Thornton. “As a cheerleader and a student she is someone young girls can really look up to.”
Johnson has been a cheerleader since she was in seventh grade. She has been a varsity cheerleader since her sophomore year.
“I love supporting my school and being a role model to younger girls,” said Johnson. Being a senior this year, Johnson is one of the cheer captains.
“She brought so much leadership and spirit,” said Aspynn Kaderka.
Johnson has been a big part of the squad according to fellow cheerleaders.
“Kelly is always up for anything. She is very spunky and gets the crowd going,” said Brooke Cole.
Johnson’s advice for future cheerleaders is to go for their dreams and always have fun.
