Since the early 1950’s, the quirky Woody Allen has been writing and directing memorable entertainment for television and the big-screen, which most consider, in one word, innovative.  Known for his movies such as Annie Hall and Manhattan (both starring Diane Keaton and himself), Woody Allen has added a new twist to romantic comedies that includes deeper meanings rather than the assurance of soul mates and true love.  While still considered comedy and romance, Woody’s movies use a clever plot, aside from romantic antics, to engage the audience in many of his films.  And once again, he created another great film worth viewing this year.

In June last summer, the nostalgic movie Midnight in Paris played in theatres and collected 56.8 million dollars.  The motion picture stars Owen Wilson (from Wedding Crashers) and Rachel McAdams (from The Notebook) along with other famous actors and actresses such as talented Kathy Bates and appealing Adrien Brody.  Set in Paris, the movie explores the city and flaunts its infamous beauty while floating through two different generations: modern-day Paris and 1920’s Paris.

Dripping with nostalgia, romance, and enlightenment, Midnight in Paris lets the old-fashioned soul travel through time while ensuring a truly meaningful lesson at the end.  Characters in the film are rich and unique, and the story itself is entirely intriguing.  If enriching and intellectual movies are not your genre, do not be dismayed.  Midnight in Paris can be just as enjoyable to easygoing viewers who prefer some simple wit, romance, and happiness. Overall, Woody Allen’s film is visionary and continues to inspire and move me, as it does with many others.   So next time you crave a film that has it all along with serene cinematography and depth, you know what to watch.
