When most people think of senior Jasper Blake, the words "Big Mutha
Trucka" may cross their minds—or at least, that's what senior Matt Baker says. For the rest of us,
who may or may not frequently read the dictionary, the word "jasper"
might make us think of "an opaque variety of colored quartz." Perhaps
not.
In any case, the average student at San Diego
SCPA knows little to nothing about Jasper. For instance, one unknown fact is
that his art is film and photography. Although he originally came to SCPA in
ninth grade for drama, Jasper decided to try a new art: film. He "liked it
instantly," and the rest is history. He has always enjoyed making home
videos, so this new "major" was a perfect fit. He is currently in the
K-Arts Production class for the second year in a row, and is enjoying it
immensely.
Jasper is so enthusiastic about his art that he
is even hoping to pursue it as a career. He says he wants to be a film
director, producer, editor, or "just do it all." After graduating
SCPA, he is planning to attend Grossmont
College because of its excellent film
program, and perhaps the University of
California, Los Angeles, at a later date. Either way, he
is anticipating his future success ten years from now.
Among some of the other little known facts about
Jasper is that he is a member of Choral Ensemble this year. When asked why he
decided to take that class, he blames it all on senior Rosco Banlaoi.
"Rosco wanted to audition for Choral, but
he didn't want to do it alone, so I auditioned with him," says Jasper.
"I got in, and he didn't." And that was that. Apparently, Jasper
never even thought of singing until that fateful audition.
When he isn't singing or doing something related
to film, Jasper's favorite thing to do in his free time is hanging out with his
friends.
Random facts? Jasper says that his most interesting
childhood memory was when he was two years old. The memory consists of
Christmas morning. He was unable to elaborate on what made it so interesting,
but interesting it was, nevertheless. Oh, and he took Irish dance when he was
in the eighth grade.
Now that his final days at SCPA are approaching,
Jasper likes to take the opportunity to step back and think of his entire time
at this unique school. He admits that his overall experience here has been
"pretty good," and there is nothing that he wishes he could change
about it. When he leaves SCPA, he will miss his wonderful teachers, Mr. Aaron Blokker, Mr. David Pope, Mr. Neil
Rothschild, Ms. Andrea Pino, and
Mrs. Constance Wolf. Jasper would
also like to shout out to "all the Matts," senior Jackie Symborski, sophomore Justin Killingsworth, senior Carlo Ybanez, senior Marina Rassmussen, and "everyone
else."
And his parting words of wisdom? "Don't do
what other people tell you to do, if it goes against what you believe."
Very classy.
