Taiwan. Estonia. Lichtenstein. These are just a few of the places that Peggy Fellerath has visited, including twenty-two other countries and thirty-three states, but who’s counting?
Fellerath, a media technician at North Harford is mainly known for her hard work and dedication in the library, such as helping with book selection and keeping track of the incoming and outgoing books. But, on September 1st, after nineteen years in the education system and eighteen years at IBM, Fellerath will be retiring.
“I will miss her; she worked hard, and always had a big smile. She was always nice to the kids and staff. We will miss her smile and her presence,” said librarian, Bob Ott.
Fellerath was a former German teacher at North Harford for four years and at York Suburban for nine years.
“I was lucky to roll over to the library because I love North Harford so much. It was a bad thing that turned good,” said Fellerath.
Fellerath enjoys working with students and teaching, but in her free time, she enjoys traveling. Fellerath has traveled to many European countries such as Germany, Austria, Finland, and Switzerland.
“Santorini, Greece is my favorite place to visit because it is very soothing and relaxing. It is a beautiful spot, there are windmills overlooking the Mediterranean’s blue sea and the buildings are all white,” said Fellerath.
Fellerath has even lived in Taiwan for a year because her husband was in the military.
“It was wonderful and I taught German to Chinese nationals at a language Institute. My students would even teach me how to cook the Chinese way,” said Fellerath.
During Fellerath’s retirement, she hopes to travel with her husband, update her house, be at a slower pace, and have more free time.
“I have decided to retire because I have a gut feeling. As hard as it is, I will have a difficult struggle because of teachers, administrators, and students,” said Fellerath.
Fellerath will especially miss seeing all of the students come in and out of the library and her relationships with the students and faculty.
“I will miss her a lot. She is one of the kindest people here and the school is going to lose someone who is the most genuine,” said senior library aide, Katie Dahlke.
Fellerath’s most memorable moment at North Harford was traveling to Paris with Larissa Arist, a French teacher, and her class.
“We consider her such a dear part of our department, even though she is no longer ‘technically’ with us, we still consider her a part. We love her dearly and she is very thoughtful; she is always dropping gifts in our mailboxes to remind us of her presence and we will miss her tons,” said Arist.
Fellerath will be only in school for a few days in August to train the next person for her spot. She is sad to leave, but hopes for the best between the students and teachers at North Harford.
“I hope for a bright future for students, good world experience, fully employed, and teachers’ success with students,” said Fellerath.
