She was born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins on May 5, 1988 in Enfield, North London. To the world, she’s the powerful European songstress who’s touched many of us with her songs of heartbreak and love. Before the world knew who Adele was, she was performing at home for her mother’s friends and covering songs by the Spice Girls and British singer Gabrielle.

After being praised by a friend of her father who happened to be a dance producer and covering Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” Adele realized she was destined to be a singer.  “Most people don’t like the way their voice sounds when it’s recorded. I was just so excited by the whole thing that I wasn’t bothered what it sounded like,” said Adele about her first time recording.  “As soon as I got a microphone in my hand, when I was about 14, I realized I wanted to do this.”

Adele met an inspirational singer named Shingai Shoniwa, who later joined the band The Noisettes as the vocalist. Living next door to Shoniwa, Adele often made use of the opportunity to jam around with her and she confessed later on that Shoniwa made her want write as well as sing. Adele went on MySpace so her voice could be heard like many other singers have done and by 2004 she was gaining online popularity.

Through Pacemaker Records, she then released her album “Hometown Glory,” soon to follow was the album “19” in 2008 through XL Recordings. In 2009, Adele won 2 Grammy awards and two years later she released “21,” her third album. This year she won six Grammys. Adele has managed to stay true to herself and give us an insight into her life through her albums, which she compares to photo albums that describe what she was going through while she was writing. Unlike many other artists, Adele doesn’t dance in her videos and she isn’t as thin as many other artists either and that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

What does the powerful songstress have to say to the critics?  “That’s not what my music is about. I don’t make music for eyes. I make music for ears,” she said. Still, Adele’s gorgeous face graces the covers of magazines and is floating all over the social media. The strong minded artist serves as an inspiration for millions of young girls all over the world and fans can’t wait to see what other stories of love she has to tell us through her music.

Adele is a really cool singer, and it's true that she "makes music for the ears". Her lyrics go deeper than many artists are willing to go.
