The town of Bandera is well-known for its country and folk bands and its bars. Those music choices are for the adults, but what about BHS students? What do they listen to? Some BHS students are going way beyond country for their musical choices.
“We more into the music of Stick to Your Guns or August Burns Red,” sophomore beginning drummer Patrick Copeland said. “Or maybe, some local music like Buried Under Texas.”
In fact, the Stick to Your Guns band was the inspiration for one BHS band. “The band Carnifex got us into the idea of starting a band,” sophomore guitarist Manuel Zimmerscheid said with a smile on his face. “Them and ‘Stick to Your Guns’. They’re great bands.”
Sophomore vocalist Darren Diggs’ band is drawn to a genre called death metal music. “We’re starting a band called High Noon,” Diggs said. “We’ve played three gigs so far and hopefully we’ll be able to have a tour in the summer.”
Even BHS’ popular hardcore band Burial of Terra, or BOT was inspired by some different genres of music. “Hardcore is where it’s at man,” BOT’s sophomore drummer Taylor Helms said.
Burial of Terra has played many shows across Texas and they continue to tour and play shows with other local bands, including The Great Commission, House by the Ditch, Buried under Texas, Darkness Divided and many more. Fan who are interested can follow High Noon and Burial of Terra on Facebook to learn of their upcoming shows.
