This ruling was clearly determined as a result of the trail of James Kent, a 65 year old man working as a professor at Marist College while obtaining pornographic images of children on his desktop computer. According to the court ruling it is now legal to view child pornography. However it is illegal to preserve it on your computer. This meaning that it is still illegal to create, distribute and promote child pornography, however it is now perfectly legal to view images of children being sexually exploited and if any of the images a porn website are downloaded to the computer upon viewing, then it is exempt from the legal repercussions. That is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like the state of New York is saying “Yes, it is absolutely okay to be a disgusting pervert and look at small children being molested.” These kids have been sexually abused and didn’t deserve to be treated the way they have. Imagine in ten years when these kids are adults; what kind of lifestyle are they going to have? What kind of emotional baggage are they going to carry? It is disturbing enough that sickos want to watch adults having sex, but the desire to want to see an innocent child being physically abused alone should be enough to put you in prison. When someone says to themselves “I want to watch little kids having sex,” what they are really saying is “ I’m going to become a pedophile someday.” I don’t have anything more to say regarding this law. The exploitation of anyone, especially children, is disturbing and wrong. As long as legislators allow child pornography to roam the internet, they will continue to be stealing the innocence of children.
