Every year, a band of kids, commonly known as freshman, enter a high school for the first time. They are full of jitters and are excited for the next four years of their school career. Sadly, some towns are just not big enough to have a high school.

Mirabile, Missouri is one of these really small towns. With a population of only 20 in this small town’s school system, a high school wouldn’t be used very much and would be very costly for the little number that would go there. The solution to solve this problem is to have Mirabile became a K-8 district and send the high school students to schools like Cameron, Lathrop, Hamilton, and Polo. Mirabile has been doing this since 1950. One thing the students will never have to worry about is transportation. Mirabile provides transportation for the students to and from the high school of their choice.

On Monday, April 16, six students from Mirabile attended Cameron High for a tour of the building. They had the opportunity to receive registration materials and also took a physical tour of the facility to get a feel for the climate of the school. They were shown classrooms, teachers, the lunchroom, gym, and many other parts of the building. The students were also introduced to some of the many activities Cameron has to offer. Plus, the students got to sit in a classroom for a while and listen in.

Mirabile Eighth Grader Matthew Beavers was one of the six who attended the Cameron High School tour. He was told Cameron was a very good school and has a variety of courses to offer students. Matthew said, “I am a huge Biology fan, and I am excited to get to dissect things.” Matthew also plans on participating in some of the activities. He said, “I plan on being in Choir, Basketball, and Wrestling.”

Cameron Senior Shawn Crawford used to go to Mirable. He took the tour when he was a freshman. He said, “Coming to Cameron was a lot different. I had to walk to classes and had to adjust to having more kids in my grade.” Shawn was sure he made the right decision once the first couple of weeks past. He said, “I made really good friends in just a week or two. I would tell all of my friends back in Mirabile to come here because it is fun and you get to meet a lot of friends.”

In Mirabile, the teachers are working diligently to ensure the students are prepared to become involved and succeed wherever they choose to go. They feel their students have a very solid foundation to build their high school experience on.

Mirabile Principal Mrs. Sherri Steinman wants her students to get the best education they possibly can. Mrs. Steinman said, “I expect the students should get a quality education wherever they go. We send our students to take tours so they can gain the knowledge about the schools that interest them to ensure they can make an educated decision about their high school experience.”

Wherever the students go will make them happy. Hopefully the students chose the right school that suits them the best, where they will have fun and make a lot of friends during their high school years.
