Since in elementary school, Allison McBroom has been in love with running. “When I was a little girl in gym class, I realized my love for running,” she said.
The senior has been a varsity runner since ninth grade when she was voted, “The Freshman of the Year.”
In order to make varsity as a freshman, an athlete has to be a stand-out and McBroom has showcased her talent in the past three seasons.
She is a three-time Drake Relays qualifier and State qualifier, named MVP her sophomore and junior year and was named to Elite All-State status in 2010.
Last year she qualified in the maximum amount of State events and medaled in all four. She was seventh in the 400m dash, seventh in the 4x400m relay, sixth in the 4x200m relay and fifth in the sprint medley relay.
McBroom has worked hard over the past three seasons and much is expected from her in the upcoming season.
“Allie’s work ethic and competitive spirit are second to none,” head coach Chad Willeford said. “She has always been a team leader through the example she sets.”
“Allie has worked and trained very hard throughout junior and senior high school to reach her goals of running in college,” mother Rhonda McBroom said.
“I would love to run in college and become an All-American,” McBroom said. “I would also love to be named a state champion while I am still in high school.”
Of her sport, McBroom says: To be in track you don’t have to be the best or the fastest, you just have to be disciplined and have a passion for the sport.
