* * * SPOILER ALERT * * *

Saw V, the fifth installment in the series, was released on October 24, 2008 just in time for Halloween. It’s probably the best thriller this year that will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you have been up to date with all the Saw films then I would suggest you watch this film. The movie still revolves around the “Jigsaw Killer,” his infamous death traps, a new series of victims, and the concluding twist and turns. The movie sums up everything that has been going on in the last 4 films. Many flashbacks will take place explaining Jigsaw and his new apprentice’s origin. It’s great the way it ties in everything so you can understand what’s going on with the characters.

However, the film lacks in some of the most important aspects. The new death scenes aren’t as original or complex as they used to be. They seem too simple and you already know what‘s going to happen without even thinking about it. For example, in the last death scene the protagonist is trapped in a room with walls closing in. Obviously, he is going to be crushed to a bloody death. In addition, the ending doesn’t give the same effect like the last four films. The usual twist and turns won’t surprise you as much with any new information for the next film. The end just shows exactly what happened throughout the whole movie.

Saw V delivers to the major fans, even though it isn’t the best in the series. I would rate the film a 3/5 stars.
