What Journalism Taught Me

Thursday, May 31, 2012 By Amanda Cherry

When I first signed up for Journalism at the end of my sophomore year, I wasn't really sure if it was something I wanted to do. Not because I didn't think I'd like it, but because I wasn't sure if I'd be good at it. When school finally started and we got to writing I really enjoyed it and I wasn't bad at it! I learned all sorts of stuff about different types of articles and how to write them properly. This class even made me change my career plan. I used to want to be a psychiatrist, but now I'm thinking of combining my love of music and writing and becoming a music journalist and working for Rolling Stone or Alternative Press Magazine. It would be the absolute dream job to go and interview bands and musicians for a living. Overall I enjoyed a lot about this class- (some of) the people(; the picture taking, and even the writing process. It helped to seriously improve my social skills and my writing ability. At first, I was out of my comfort zone, but now I realize it's helped me to come out of my shell a bit. I really enjoyed my experience in this class and I look forward to coming back next year for Newspaper!
