Principal Bonner to leave for Valley CenterTuesday, May 29, 2012 By Ashley Golden
Principal Mike Bonner has accepted a job as assistant superintendent for the Valley Center school district, he said Tuesday. Bonner said he is looking forward to the duties and challenges that his new job entails, but he knows he will miss his job as principal of Maize High. “I’ll miss everything: the kids, our teachers, leading pep assemblies, Friday night games, watching kids display their talents,” said Bonner, who was an assistant principal at Maize for three years. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my nine years at Maize High School, and I very much appreciate being here.” Although not actively searching for a new job, Bonner began monitoring openings at the district level after recently receiving his district level license that took him two years to achieve. He sent out two applications this year, with one landing him this opportunity. At Valley Center, Bonner will join superintendent Cory Gibson, who will be in his first year with the USD 262 school district. “It’s a smaller size district, which will be good for my first year,” Bonner said. Bonner said the principal job at Maize will be posted for at least two weeks before the district begins interviewing for his replacement. “It’s a great school and a great district,” Bonner said. He offered words of encouragement for his successor. “Be enthusiastic and embrace being a Maize Eagle, because It’s always a great day to be an Eagle.” |
