Phys Ed TournamentMonday, May 21, 2012 By Frank Carpinello '12
Earlier this spring, phys ed hosted three tournaments in the gym. They were comprised of the intense sports of table tennis, badminton, and volleyball. During first mod the riveting game of table tennis was played. After a long hour of grueling game played only two contenders were left standing. The winner from the boys' side was Drew Kriebel, a notorious ping pong player, who defeated the tough competition of Ethan Steuer. The female winner was Mandie Tyrpak. The badminton tournament was played right after the table tennis matches were over. The tournament was broken down into a girl’s category and a boy or coed team. Devyn Kerr and Vince Boyle knocked out Dalton Fleming and Chris Cornwell to take the boy’s title home. “I was very happy with the outcome of the tournament but I was excited the most by the amount of friendly competition,” said the humble Devyn Kerr. The Sirak twins won the girls section of the tournament. Angelina and Stephanie were very blissful about their win. Finally came the most awaited part of the day, the volleyball tournament. The tournament was made up off the most elite teams from each gym class. The winning team consisted of Ashlyn Stanley, Matt Ruskey, Dylan Wesley, Zach Duna, Sarah Kolb, and Mandie Tyrpak. The team came into the day hungry from victory. After they dominated the first couple of games they found themselves in the championship. Their skills did not falter during crunch time and they defeated the number one seeded team and won the tournament. After the tiring day of competitive game play all the students took something home, the feeling of good sportsmanship. |
