David Mayne Resigns as Soccer Coach

Imagine getting the job of your dreams, only to find out that you are also being given another job that you love. Soccer Coach David Mayne was given the privilege of being a high school history teacher and a high school soccer coach. “I love sports; it was a great place to learn about life and grow. It has always been a part of my life, and it’s part of my degree. I’ve always wanted to interact with youth in this forum and hopefully impact them for good,” said Coach Mayne. Any school needs people that are dedicated to what they do and they influence others. It’s always a shame to lose an influence, and that is exactly what CHS is losing. Yes, you heard right. Coach Mayne will not be coaching next year. “I will be so upset when coach Mayne leaves; he was a really great coach,” said Sophomore Junior Varsity Player Hayley Albro. For six years, coaching has been a part of Mr. Mayne’s daily life. Between two-a-day practices, after school practices, and, of course, games, there is hardly any time left for what is more important than anything to Mr. Mayne: his family. “[I’m resigning] to spend more time with my five amazing kids. My oldest is eight, and in four more years she won’t want to hang out with her dad anymore. I’ve only got a small window to spend time with her and teach her all I hope to. I’ll miss coaching more than anyone can know, but my first duty is to my family,” said Coach Mayne. It’s obvious his team mean the world to him, but what do the soccer players think about losing their coach? “He is going to be missed by all of us. I'll never forget him making us practice in our bare feet in the rain; it was so cold!,” said Hayley Albro. Coach Mayne has made it very clear that he will be at every home game possible, but it’s not the same. Keep your head up soccer players, and play harder than ever! “[My favorite part about being a coach is] the relationship you build with the team. It will be a knife through the heart not working with them next year. I’m going to miss some amazing experiences. I’ll miss the time I spend with these youth and my fellow coaches. It’s a rare thing to be a part of a team like this; it’s an honor and a privilege and I’m leaving it. It definitely is hard,” said Coach Mayne. Coach Mayne will be taking on the responsibility of the Academic Team next fall, and he will be spending more time with his family. “The time commitment and season of the year is far more conducive to me being a father, which is my main priority. I can still be involved, but still get to be a dad,” said Coach Mayne. As for the senior players, Mr. Mayne had a special shout-out to you, as well as the rest of the team: “I’ll dearly miss you all. It has been a rare privilege and honor. I wish you all the greatest success. It’s been a hard choice to make, but I had to make it. Best wishes!” High school is all about learning something new and figuring out just who you are. Even if it’s a coach that helps you get there, it means all the same. Keep the memories you have shared and plan to make a thousand more. Thank you, Coach Mayne for being an awesome coach and influence. You’ve made an impact, and that’s all that matters!
