Spanish 4 AP? Maybe not...Friday, January 06, 2012 By Amanda Cherry
As many students know, Spanish 4 here at BHS is an AP course, but recently rumors have been flying around saying that Spanish 4 AP will just be a regular Spanish 4 class next year. When asked Spanish IV teacher Philip Stein said that the idea was still on the table and that no final decision had been made. My question is, how will other students feel about this? I personally think it’s a good idea. Spanish is stressful enough as it is. I can only imagine how hard Spanish 4 AP is. Plus without AP, students won’t have to deal with the pressure to pass the AP exam. And if it does become a regular Spanish 4 class, more students may be like to sign up for it. And for those students who think AP is great for college, well yea, it is, but I think they’ll be just as impressed with the fact that you pushed yourself to an extra foreign language class that you didn’t necessarily have to take in the first place. So yeah, I’m totally for the idea of a Spanish 4 - NO AP. Will I take the class? No, probably not. I have no desire to be THAT fluent in Spanish for one because I’ve been taking it for three years and I still can’t speak it. And two, because I do not see myself speaking Spanish in any of my future career choices. But for those of you that have the desire to continue on in Spanish, your best bet would be to check with Principal Gary Bitzkie and/or Sr. Stein towards the end of the year.
