It’s Thanksgiving Day and the Macy’s Day Parade is missing a Santa Claus. Out of a last-ditch effort, Doris Walker hires a man who goes by the name of Kris Kringle as her replacement. Doris doesn’t believe in Santa, and neither does her daughter Susan, so when Mr. Kringle tells them that he is the real Santa Claus, they peg him for insane. Kris Kringle takes it upon himself to make them believe, but when that doesn’t go according to plan, Christmas is left without a Santa Claus and Mr. Kringle must find another way to make Doris and her daughter believe in order to save Christmas. Miracle on 34 th Street by Valentine Davies originally came out in 1947 and was accompanied by a black and white film. However, in 1994, the novella was remade into a film starring Mara Wilson (better known for her role in Matilda ), as the little girl who just didn’t believe that Santa still existed. Since the original book’s publishing in 1947, Baltimore has been known to take part in the “Miracle on 34 th street” with their holiday lights display on the 700 block of 34 th Street in Hampden. People from around the world come to see the lights, which are displayed from late November until early January. |
