Seniors will follow many paths to meet their goalsTuesday, June 09, 2009 By Desiny Yates, Class of 2009
Life after high school can be as dramatic as it was getting used to being a high school freshman. We have spent our last four years sticking to the same routines day after day. Our life was pretty much controlled by our schedules. We were guaranteed a place to lay our heads at nights, and had friends and peers to rely on when we needed them. Now, it is time to go on with the plans we have made these past four years. Some high school graduates will further their education by attending college for two or more years. The career they choose to major in decides how many credits, or years, they need to attend college to complete their full education. Nowadays, you have the option to change majors or take a variety of courses to keep yourself updated on the latest progressive movements in different fields. Senior Bret Baldwin has decided to go into his family business of farming after graduation. Baldwin plans on attending UNC-Charlotte, so he can update himself on conditions and techniques to better the business and make it prosper. The foundation for the business has been set, and the new ideas can keep it going in the right direction for future growth. Senior Brandon Rummage is choosing a future as an air conditioning business owner. Rummage is planning on attending college and working part time to invest in his own business. Rummage plans on being his own boss. "I would rather be my own boss and follow by my own rules," says Rummage. He is aware that creating his own business and keeping it stable is risky, but he believes that if there is enough determination and motivation in him, anything is possible. Other people are willing to invest in a well-motivated person, and motivation will help anyone become a success. Medical fields are places in employment that will always be needed. Some students choose medical professions, including nursing, dentistry, physiology, or medical secretary. Senior Iyana Bailey plans to attend RCCC after graduation and hopefully go into nursing school. Bailey says, "If I take classes and spend my time getting a degree in something, I want to at least be able to keep my job instead of worrying and being laid off. The way the economy is now, it is best to find a job that you know will always be needed so you can keep having some type of income." Any medical professions are demanding and forever needing educated and dependable people. While the majority of jobs need educated people, there are some careers that want our people highly educated, such as the teaching profession. Senior Jasmine Phifer plans to attend RCCC and get a teaching degree. Jasmine's kind attitude and motivation to help others learn makes her a perfect candidate to be an elementary school teacher. Many students may choose to become homeowners and raise their own families. It is these working people that make all the other careers demanding and valuable. Homeowners and hard-working people make our country grow and prosper. The middle class group knows how to appreciate the professionals that help them deal from day to day with life matters. Whatever your decision is to do with the rest of your career, it is in your hands to strive to be what you want to become. It takes all classes of people to make our country survive. Any profession you choose, from trash collectors to rocket scientist, has to have a backing from someone to help you succeed. Always remember, you are your biggest asset. Don’t sell yourself short |
