The RCHS Lady Cougars ended the season well with one win and one loss. This put RCHS Cougars to 9-5 in conference and 14-7 overall.

Despite the RCHS Lady Cougars’ aggressiveness, they were defeated in a 2-3 match against Southwest Guilford on Tuesday, October 5.

The Lady Cougars won the first match with impressive defense, 25-17. Despite the loss in the second match, 12-25, Jenny Sharpe, Bridget Stophel and Hannah Newman were credited with a numerous amount of digs on defense.

The third match was a disappointing loss to the Lady Cougars, 17-25. Megan Fields stood out with four kills, 13 assisted blocks, 4 aces in 14 serves, Jessica Smith added 8 kills.

The Cougars defeated Southwest Guilford, 25-14, in the fourth match. The fifth match determined who won overall. Unfortunately, the Lady Cougars were defeated, 11-15.

“We played with a poor attitude and it reflected in out scores,” said Marshall Ratliff.

The RCHS Lady Cougars played a no-struggle game against Carver Thursday, October 7. The ladies defeated Carver in 3 matches.

“We sort of played a relaxed game,” said Marshall Ratliff. “It was more of a fun-type game, no pressure.”

In the first game, the Cougars were victorious, 25-16. Brandy Apple led the Lady Cougars at the net with four kills. Megan Fields served the Lady Cougars into a led from 19-15 to 23-15.

The Cougars also defeated Carver in the second match, 25-10. Jenny Sharpe started things by serving a 9-0 lead. Rebecca Evans contributed two aces. The Cougars again were victorious in the third match, 25-13.

The Lady Cougars served nine aces as a team in this game.

“Serving did play a very important part in the game,” said Marshal Ratliff.

The Lady Cougars finished off their season in a 5-game decision against Parkland on Tuesday, October 12. The Cougars were victorious overall.

The first match the Lady Cougars were defeated, 17-25. The second match RCHS defeated Parkland, 25-9. Megan Fields was 14 of 16 serving with 13 service points. Jessica Smith had nine blocks and four kills. Kacie Stanley was 13 of 14 serving with 13 service points. Lauren Wright was 10 of 10 serving.

“We dominated on our serves tonight,” said head couach Marshall Ratliff “That’s what won it for us tonight.”

The fourth match the Cougars were defeated 20-25. The fifth match determined who won and the Cougars defeated Parkland 15-9. Megan Fields had 16 assists and 6 blocks. Jessica Smith was 11 of 11 serving. Kacie Stanley had four blocks and three kills.

The Cougars are planning to dominate in conference tournaments and go to stat on Tuesday, October 26.
