A graduate from University High School, Mia Young has returned to teach ninth and tenth grade students the fundamentals of the English language.

She attended California State University Northridge and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English.

Prior to teaching at UHS, Young taught at Granada Hills High School as well as at Sutter Middle School as a student teacher.Young decided to teach at University due to the high impact that the school had on her life.

She was somewhat unsure of herself when she started, but her personality grew as she felt more and more comfortable at Uni. Young’s growth was due in large part to her three favorite teachers, Rosie Lomeli, Cassie Bryer, and Gretchen Clark, who is now retired. These three teachers helped her tremendously during her days as a student as well as in her current work.

While attending UHS, Young was a member of the yearbook staff for three years.

Young finds it easier to teach freshmen students rather than upperclassmen, though she she made upon graduating from college.

Young’s advice to students is,’“Don’t limit yourself to what you think you can do.” She encourages every student enjoys teaching both.

Young was nervous on her first day of school but has grown to love and appreciate her job.

Although she did not decide on a teaching career prior to attending college, she is happy with the decision t to do something after high school, even if it is small; a start is better than nothing.”
