Students in the class of ’06, ’07, and ’08, and leadership will be participating in the “Tip-a-Wildcat” fund-raising event at the famous Norms restaurant on Pico Blvd. East of Sepulveda, in Westwood, which has recently been refurnished.

In an effort to achieve a stronger connection with the school community, they have allowed Uni to be the first high school to do fund-raising events with the restaurant. All students and individuals who support Uni High are invited to come and participate in the fund-raiser.

“I am very excited to reconnect with Norms restaurant this year because all of my friends used to hang out there when I was a student at Uni in the 1980’s,” said Steve Ackerman, the advisor for Leadership.

Students will be working as hosts and hostesses during regular business hours on Saturday, May 21, all day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Twenty percent of all the money Uni brings in for the day will be submitted to the student body and the tips will be equally divided among the three classes.

In addition, there will be a special drink called the “Wildcat Freeze”, an orange shake, on sale for 2 months, with proceeds donated to University High.

“I think this is a really good fund-raiser because it brings the 9th, 10th, and 11th graders to fund-raise together and brings a lot of support to the student body,” said Brittnay Roach, sophomore in charge of the event.

“I’m expecting a really good turnout. I’ve been talking to a bunch of people from the other grades, and they are really excited for it, and leadership is looking forward to it also.”

As a special event, Gideon Ben-Abu, junior, will be dressing up as the Uni-High Wildcat mascot advertising and dancing during the fund-raising activities.

“It’s going be exciting and everybody should come out because all the classes are being represented,” said Courtney Howard, a sophomore leadership member, “It is a good way to raise money for your classes, for all the activities you are going to have. A lot of people who are involved in sports and leadership will be participating, but it would be better if other people in school came to support the fund-raising.”
