With many new shows premiering recently, most people have to rely on commercials to get them interested in a show. One show that has managed to not only be a clever show itself, but also in its advertising is Don’t Trust the B In Apartment 23. Starring Dreama Walker, the show is about a girl named June, who moved to New York City for a job offer, only to have the company close due to embezzlement. She ends up moving in with a girl named Chloe (Krysten Ritter), who while at first appears to be the perfect roommate, is actually a nightmare to live with. Chloe is a scam artist who charges her roommates more than they need for rent and then scares them out so that she can keep the money. However, they develop an unlikely friendship after June fights back, selling all of Chloe’s belongings. Entangled in all of this is James Van Der Beek, who plays a fictionalized version of himself (a la Neil Patrick Stuart in the Harold & Kumar series). The show’s advertising
focuses more on the raunchy nature on the show, and how bad of a roommate Chloe is. Even though it can be argued that Walker’s character is the main character, and that Van Der Beek’s character is what brings viewers in, it is Ritter’s character that makes the show as entertaining as it is. It was described as a new version of Odd Couple, and it is. ABC is marketing this show the right way, by focusing on the most entertaining character, other than the main one. Not many
people would watch a show that was just about a down-on-her-luck girl in NYC. It’s been done already to death. The raunchiness that advertisements offer is not in short supply, with an episode dealing around Chloe trying to set up June with her own father, who is still married to Chloe’s paraplegic mother. The show makes use of Chloe’s bad nature and it makes for hilarious situations. The show also has an array of supporting characters, from June’s new boss at the coffee shop where she works (who also was gonna be her boss at the business firm before it closed) to a neighbor who stalks Chloe and is in love with her. There are many hilarious shows recently premiering, but if you want a good laugh every Wednesday after the already hilarious Modern Family, tune in to Don’t Trust the B In Apartment 23, every Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m.on ABC.
