The 26th Annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles successfully collected abundant donations, approximately 2.8 million dollars. Over 30,000 participants walked 10 kilometers and raised hope in the crusade to end the AIDS epidemic. Early-bird volunteers arrived between the hours 6 and 7 a.m. on Oct. 17. Free snacks required stacking and sorting before being provided to all participants
Before the event began, Drew Carey, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, West Hollywood Mayor John Neilman, and others spoke to express their gratitude for the volunteers sacrificing their time for the cause. As soon as the clock struck 10 a.m, the crowd began their 10-kilometer walk to fight AIDS. Since 1985, Los Angeles has hosted an Annual AIDS Walk. Today, AIDS Walk Los Angeles is the largest AIDS fundraiser in the State of California. Over 66 million dollars has been raised since 1985, with 2.8 alone on the latest walk. These crucial donations are responsible for providing food, medical services and housing to those infected with AIDS, as well as a large and effective HIV prevention group. Countless have gained from the fruits of the AIDS Walk. Uni High also did its part. Over 60 Uni students walked with as a group representing our school. Their satisfaction of helping a good cause was evident. Senior Uzzle Esliza, proud participant, said, “AIDS Walk was a breeze, despite the distance of 10km. Since I was walking with my friends with the knowledge that I walked for a good cause, it felt great.” With Wildcats also helping, AIDS can one day be eradicated.
