Want to add a little excitement to your monotonous school week?

Students will be offered the opportunity to do just that in the Fashion Club, which is holding its first meeting today.

The club is sponsored by English Department Chairperson Ilene Thaler and is led by junior Diane Navarro, the president of the club.

“How you look creates a first impression,” said Thaler “It’s helpful to be aware of fashion.”

Although Thaler will not be conducting any seminars on fashion, she is eager to participate in the activities.

The club plans to invite representatives from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) to talk to club members about the opportunities available to them.

This, the school’s first fashion club, will introduce members to the different careers available in the fashion industry. The organizers also hope to take participants on various field trips.

“If you have a career interest in fashion, it’s a good idea to come [to the Fashion Club meetings] and share ideas and experiences,” said Thaler.

As for you “fashionistas,” this is the perfect opportunity to get a head start in the fashion world.

Participants will also have the opportunity to perform in school fashion shows and venture into the world of fashion with their own designs.

The club will offer students the chance to discuss the “do’s” and “don’ts” of today’s fashion.

Organizers hope to attract not only stylish girls, but boys as well. With the growing popularity of famous male designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, and Calvin Klein, men are finally showing that fashion is not only for the girls.

So don’t get stuck wearing 1999’s bell-bottoms; join fashion club today in room H31 Fridays during lunch.
