The first four weeks of the NFL season have been filled with many surprises, especially in the fantasy football world.
Ladainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson and Steven Jackson were the top three overall players in most fantasy football drafts, but all of them got off to very slow starts. So slow, that none of them have cracked the top 10 in any rushing category.
Be patient and give them time. LT and LJ both had their first 100-yard games last week and will eventually come around. Jackson, on the other hand, is out indefinitely.
Ronnie Brown may be the ealry surprise this season. The Miami running back is the top scoring back, with Eagles versatile runner Brian Westbrook a close second.
Peyton Manning isn’t on the same pace that won him the MVP award last year, but he is having another solid season as he’s among the leaders in all passing categories.
Tom Brady and Carson Palmer have also gotten off to good starts, but Brett Favre and Tony Romo have been the high scorers at the quarterback position.
And Texans’ quarterback Matt Schaub might be the biggest sleeper around. Pick him up if he’s available in your league.
The wide receiver position has been the most consistent so far with all the big names at the top of the list. Randy Moss leads the NFL with seven touchdown catches, and Chad Johnson has the most receiving yards.
But Jets receiver Jerricho Cotchery might be a solid third receiver as he emerges from the shadow of Laveranues Coles.
Start ’Em
Tom Brady vs. Cleveland. The Browns give up an average of 268 passing yards per game, and with Brady playing the way he is, look for him to have a huge game.
Willis McGahee at San Francisco. McGahee has played well this season, but he should have a breakout week against a 49er’s defense who gives up a league worst 130 yards on the ground.
Sit ’Em
Shaun Alexander at Pittsburgh. In a rematch of Super Bowl XL, Alexander takes on a Pittsburgh defense which hasn’t allowed a 100 yard rusher in 29 straight games.
San Diego Chargers wide receivers at Denver. Champ Bailey and Dre Bly make up one of the top secondaries in the NFL, so look for a poor performance from the Charger wideouts
Brian Griese at Green Bay. I should be saying start the Green Bay upstart defense because Griese threw three interceptions last week in Detroit. Look for him to throw a few more this weekend.
