When you are in a relationship, do you feel like you get distracted more than you usually would, or do you feel like it ever interferes with your school work? High school is for learning and preparing for your future; most students, however, are making their relationships their priority. Most students who fall in that category do not do well in school or at least as well as they wish they were doing. Several different sources say that only about 8% to 11% of high school relationships stay together but most wind up breaking apart within a small amount of time. It is not that you shouldn’t have a relationship during your school years, but you shouldn’t have it interfere with your school work. With having the stress of getting things ready for college, getting your homework done, and getting your grades up, the stress might overwhelm you and distract you from your school work. Those are things that you can worry about at home when it is the appropriate time to worry about them. If things are that bad with your significant other, then you should go to the social worker at your school instead of worrying or daydreaming about it during your class. Do not make it the talk of your class though; you are not the only one going through that problem with your significant other. There are students who want to learn and be prepared for their future.
You are not just distracting yourself from your school work, but you are also distracting your partner. Fighting with your partner in school will distract them from getting their work done and getting themselves prepared for their future just as much as it will distract you. Instead of texting your significant other during your classes and trying to figure everything out, you both should set a time out of school and fix what needs to be fixed. Maybe another problem that is a distraction during school is that you and your partner see each other too much. It is understandable that you want to see your partner during school hours as much as you want to see them outside of school, but instead of them walking you to every class and then being late to their own class, you should both go to your own classes on time and be prepared to learn. Maybe if you do not see them as much, you will not be so distracted from your school work and you would try harder in the places that are more important in the long run.
Trying to solve your relationship problems during school should not be the most important thing on your mind. In five years from now, there is a very big chance that what ever "drama" is going on with you and your partner will not matter. It is a lot less stress to learn how to relax, and focus.
