The girls lacrosse team is trying to create a successful season. The Bulldogs are right there each game and hanging with the toughest competition on the island, they just need to bridge the gap of the team they used to be, and the team they could be. They finalized the leadership on the team, the captains are all seniors; Kelsey Russo, Brianna Lamarca, Kimmie D’Angelo, and Kate Byrne.
The Lady Bulldogs opened their season with success, they played Smithtown East, ranked 7th in the county, and demonstrated their newly refined stick skills. Jess Wharrey (’11) and Kelsey Russo both had hat tricks, while Brianna Lamarca, Melissa Dellrocca(13), Dana Colton(’11), Gabby Valella(‘11), Liz Gorman(’11), and Kim D’Angelo all provided a goal for the offense. Defense held strong while goalies Kate Byrne had ten saves, and Rachel Ramierez (’13) had five saves. The final score was 12-10 in Lindenhurst’s favor.
The girls were sadly defeated in the final two minutes of their nonleague game against the defending division II County Champions Sayville. Kelsey Russo was the clear leader of the attack netting four goals, while fellow teammate Jess Wharrey had her second hat trick of the season, and Gabby Valella and Kim D’Angelo scored a goal apiece. The defense did their best, but unfortunately, a lot of penalty shots were awarded in Sayville’s favor. Kate Byrne had a total of six saves to bring the final score to 10-9.
Bay Shore was the single most frustrating game for spectators. Lindy went into the half up one goal, and they had been playing a fantastic game, almost flawless. They made smart decisions on the field and their finesse was to be admired. Unfortunately, they stepped out onto the field the second half a different team and allowed five unanswered goals to be scored. The girls then got their heads back into the game and tried desperately to get back in the game, but there wasn’t enough time. Kelsey Russo scored three times and Jess Wharrey twice. Gabby Valella, Kim D’Angelo, and Ally Marchino(’12) each contributed a goal. Kate Byrne had eleven saves, and Rachel Ramierez had one.
