British artist, Adele announced back in June that she would be forced to cancel the remaining dates of her U.S. Tour due to laryngitis when rumors began to spiral out of control claiming the reason she cancelled her tour was because she was told to lose weight.

The award-winning singer was in the midst of enjoying the success of her sophomore album, 21, when a source told Star Magazine that shortly after Adele landed in Los Angeles in early May, “an executive for her label told her she needs to lose weight. And that really devastated her.” The same source revealed that Adele felt bullied in Los Angeles and spent that night sitting in her hotel room on her own – crying.

“As a performer, you have that mentality that there is always better. But Adele has probably heard that for a long time, why would it affect her now? Now that she has so many top singles. I don't think that would be a reason for her to quit her tour. You're always going to have people who will find reasons to hate, you have to acknowledge it and move past it,” said Derek Quesada, a senior in the Technical Theater strand and president of MLEC’s Drama Club.

Contradicting these reports of her “insecurity,” is Adele’s interview with Rolling Stone Magazine back in April, where she was quoted saying “my life is full of drama and I won’t have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like. I don’t like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drink nice wine. I love seeing Lady Gaga’s boobs and bum. I love seeing Katy Perry’s boobs and bum. Love it. But that’s not what my music is about. I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears,” said Adele.

“I think that as a performer myself, it should mainly be my talent the people should like, not how I look or dress or any of the sort. I'm advertising my act, not my looks or anything else right? I do not feel that being overweight is a roadblock you have to overcome; Adele has an amazing talent… I feel I'm not that attractive but damn, if I got fans ima show them a damn good show.”

The singer even took to her own blog to brush off the rumors by confirming herself that her doctor advised her to take a few weeks of vocal rest “or risk permanent damage.” She even gushed about how she was “having the best time ever on tour,” and was anxious to get back.
