The idea of being among hundreds of raging, anxious and
sweaty people seemed dreadful until the first of February. The Inward
Scream tour -headlined by Japanese rising artist Dir en Grey and with
guest artists Fair to Midland and California’s Bleed the Dream- made a
stop at Ft. Lauderdale’s main show venue, Revolution.
The show started 30 minutes later than expected, thus building
up another layer of anxiety in the crowd. The 4-piece L.A. band opened
the show with their melodic sounds, for most in the audience, the somewhat
cliché sounds were a mere warm-up for the more expected performances.
The stage was inherited by Texan progressive quintet, Fair to
Midland, with a far more entertaining performance, in which each
member made sure they contributed to the overall image of the band,
a group of eccentric southern boys just rocking the stage with material
that seemed more appealing to the multitude.
And then came the bang. About 10 minutes between the last
performance and two hours between the beginning and end of the anxiety
that could be heard in the sounds of more than 300 people chanting
the name of the band that would steal the night and the overall
performance, Dir en Grey. The opening song was their famous G.D.S.
with the stream of screams, blasting bass drums, and a wave of strobe
lights and smoke showers. From their most famous songs to the newly
bred songs off their soon-to-be-released album, The Marrow of a Bone.
If you’re not a fan, go get yourself a nice treat of melodic and manic
sounds that will embrace your ears and never let them go. Just one of
those bands with a performance that’s not worth missing.
