At-a-glance

One day I was thinking about how people who have literally never been outside the city limits in their life would react if they were randomly thrown in the wilderness. To be honest, I couldn’t even imagine what that would even feel like. “THE BACK COUNTRY” is my version of the recorded response.

 THE BACK COUNTRY

You were born and raised in the city.

You were taught how to survive in the city.

You are accustomed to walls surrounding you, protecting you, containing you.

You see at night bright lights from stores.

You see at night nothing but a black reddish glow in the sky.

You say to people what you want to eat.

You take it from their hands already made.

You take showers whenever you want.

You take food from the refrigerator when you’re hungry.

You now stand on top of a mountain.

You look around you and what do you see?

Nothing.

Those are not light poles towering over the valley.

That is not a bayou running down the mountain.

What the heck is glitter doing up above me?

What is going on?

Is this earth?

Who can I ask for directions?

*GROWL*

Oh thank god.

There's a brown car coming behind me.
