Muir’s Halloween showdown with Pacific League opponent Crescenta Valley looks to be its last significant hurdle, one that it cleared easily in a convincing 32-6 victory. With both teams going into the game at 4-0 in league play and as the last two undefeated teams, the contest was effectively the league championship, putting Muir in the League’s driver’s seat with sole possession of first place. With league doormat Hoover and struggling Pasadena as only remaining obstacles, another Pacific League crown seems all but guaranteed, so let’s step back and take a look around the league.

Muir: After winning all their league games and playing their best football in recent weeks, can anything stop the Mustangs from another League Championship? Probably not, but looking past an inevitable blowout against Hoover, the question will come down to the Turkey Tussle on November 14th.

Crescenta Valley: After suffering their first loss in league play at the hands of Muir, CV hopes to finish strong with wins against Pasadena and Arcadia, which will both be underdogs, to secure a second place finish.

Burroughs: With the highest scoring offense in the league, the Indians should beat Glendale to set up a run at a third place finish against rival Burbank on 11/14. They also beat Arcadia impressively, giving them the tie-breaker. Maybe that will make them feel better about losing to Muir...

Glendale: The Dynamiters will need to a win against Burroughs as well as some help from other teams if they are to finish higher than fifth in the standings.

Arcadia: Sitting at .500, the Apaches hope to put a stop to a 2 game losing skid and avoid a potential 4 losses to end the season when they play Burbank. After that, they face another daunting task against CV.

Burbank: In Burbank we find yet another team in the dogfight in the middle of the league standings. The Bulldogs were competitive in their loss to Muir and CV, but have a 23 point loss to Glendale. They face two very tough opponents in Arcadia and Burroughs to end the season.

Pasadena: The Bulldogs we love to hate lost most of their best players from last year’s strong team that nearly upset Muir. They are 1-4 in the league with their only win coming against punching-bag Hoover, and must face CV before they take yet another crack at the Mustangs...who they haven't beaten in 13 years, and have beaten only once since 1983. Did somebody say domination?

Hoover: Hoover is getting accustomed to losing seasons, but this year could be considered a disappointment even by their standards. They are winless and haven’t held a league opponent to less than 40 points. To be fair, though, they are rebuilding with only 6 returning starters and a new coaching staff, and can only hope that their match-up with Muir doesn’t turn into a complete blood-letting. But don’t count on it.
