This year Venice High’s varsity football team consists of 21 seniors including five captains Gabe Marks, Jahret Hood, Ricardo Navarro, Danny Mogallanes, and Dean Sarabia.

The rest of the senior players are Jayshawn Lowe, Lamar Moody, Dana Goodnight, Deontay Banks, Tahir Muid, Aaron Soto, Jermaine Washington, Edgar Lopez Ramos, Sammy Garcia, Arthur Vasquez, Richard Domingez, Raul Sanchez, Jonathan Gutierrez, Rogelio Patino, Joshua Birt, and Chris Solis.

These players train very hard and have a lot of motivation to win the City Championships, said team members. Moody, #3, has been playing football for nine years and has spent four of them playing at Venice.

When asked why he enjoys football, Moody said “I enjoy the physical aspects of football and the feeling of making a big play.”

The most intense game, Moody said, was Harvard – Westlake “because we almost lost. Then 16 seconds left, Gabe Marks scores.” Venice beat Harvard- Westlake 34-27.

The biggest threat is Crenshaw High School, Moody said. Muid, #15, has been playing football for five years and has spent four playing at Venice.

“I enjoy football because you’re always with your bros and you’re getting to play a sport you enjoy,” said Muid.
