From red cards to injuries, the Gondos struck out hard on the field. With a league record of 5-4-2, the guys did not call it quits throughout the season.
From torn ligaments to sprained ankles, the soccer team was significantly affected as first-string players dropped one by one. Adrian Chavez, a valuable player to the team, was unable to step foot on the field during his senior year because of a knee injury that he recently got surgery for. Second-string players had to step their game up and help recover the team’s record.
As if injuries were not enough of a barrier, apparently some team members could not control their temper on the field.
Hamilton High School defeated Venice on Jan. 14 with a score of 3-0. Armin Gordian showed unsportsmanship-like-conduct by revealing his aggravation towards their opponents and an attempt to punch a player resulted in a red card for the Gondos.
They faced Hamilton again on Feb. 9 where they managed to keep their cool. Fortunately, they beat Hamilton 5-1.
They were superior to their opponents but they could not put the ball in the net. They failed to finish their games and beginner errors cost them. On Friday, Feb. 11 the team was going to find out if they made it to playoffs but this information was not available at press time.
For 18 senior varsity players, their season is coming to an end.
“I have enjoyed playing alongside my good friends,” said captain Delmar Chapa, “ and will remember them forever.”
