At pep rallies, football games, and special events the step team is always there, showing off their moves. After every event, students, teachers and other fans might wonder where they got their moves.

"Sometimes we get the moves from T.V." said Tenneh Power, a senior at Venice and member of the step team.

Even so, it takes a lot of hard work and perparation to learn the routines. The team practices every day after school for two hours.

Kimi Bent has been on the step team for two years since joining in the 10th grade. Bent and Israel Meza are in charge of teaching the team members their moves. They realize that it’s impossible to be perfect, but if they put in the time, it should come out close to perfect by the time they show it to everybody.

The step team, established in 2001, has seven talented dancers this year who can really show their moves.

The step team requires a lot of hard work and that’s why they have coach Trina Benson, the founder of the team, and assistant coach Lawrence Hatcher, a 2003 grad. Both of them help dancers learn the steps. The step team has competed many times against Westchester, Crenshaw and Leuzinger.
