If things were the way they were two decades ago- when inter-racial dating was almost forbidden- even the thought of dating outside one's race would never even cross most people's minds. However, over time attitudes have changed and the issue of inter-racial dating isn't a big deal anymore. More and more people feel comfortable openly dating outside their own race.

Out of the 60 responses I got from students on this topic, only one or two were against inter-racial dating. The fact of the matter is, no one really cares any more!

We like to believe that people our age are more worried about the way someone makes us feel, not their ethnicity. But that's simply not the case. Some people are finding they prefer people from other races over people of their own race.

In fact, don't we all know someone or maybe even ourselves to be the type of person who only dates people of other races. I've personally heard plenty of people admit to not dating within their own race due to various reasons, and I'll admit, I rarely do it myself. Doesn't this make us racist against our own race? What if a Caucasian were to say, "I don’t date black girls because they're loud, and ghetto!" Wouldn't you consider that racism? Well, believe it or not, I've heard those exact words come out the mouths of several black guys.

It's not only black guys. Students of other races also avoid dating people of their own ethnicity. For example, I know an Asian girl who won't date Asian guys because they're not cute to her. There's a Caucasian guy I know, who only dates black girls, because they're "real"-- whatever that means. So, if people aren't making a big deal out of inter-racial dating anymore, why are they going out of their way to not date within their own race?

I personally find inter-racial dating to be interesting. You're given the opportunity to learn so much about a different culture. In an inter-racial relationship, couples might have more to talk about because they have so much to learn about each other.

Today, inter-racial dating is nothing to get all worked up about. You see it every day. People simply don't care. Whether a person is happy and secure in their relationship seems to hold more value over the complexion of their partner's skin. I know I don't care, and neither should you!
