“Turistas” (rated R) released on Dec. 1, is a suspense film about a group of Americans who travel to Brazil in search of something new and exciting. However, on their way to a large city, they fall victim to a bus accident, leaving them stranded on the road for 10 hours until the next bus arrives.

Although the natives of Brazil decide to wait for the bus, the groups of Americans wander off and find a beach, with drinks that don’t stop, great food, and music bumping. They think they have found paradise, but the place they found was anything but that. The natives had a bigger plan for these tourists.

At some point during the night, someone slips something into all of the Americans’ drinks and when they awake they find they have been robbed. No money, passports, or anything at all.

They wander aimlessly until they come upon a town. After a small run-in with a few of the townspeople, they find a familiar face from the night before who begins to guide them to what they think is a haven.

When they arrive at a large house, they think they’ll be able to rest there and get back to America. Unfortunately, they were lured into the lair of a mad doctor. They are now stranded in the middle of nowhere with people they don’t know, with even more mysterious motives.

Most critics gave this film a low rating because they thought it was too predictable and too much of the plot was revealed early on. Although critics didn’t think much of it, some people who saw it liked it.

“I liked all the blood. It was cool,” said Alex Farkas, 15, a student at Venice High. He enjoyed the movie and recommended that other teens should see it too.
