After a disheartening loss in GMAC’s the girls’ volleyball team hopes to rebound in Districts.

Beginning the season with a new group of starters, the girls’ volleyball team didn’t know what to expect. “With the loss of so many key seniors we weren’t sure how we would play this season. Even though we lost in GMAC’s we surprised everyone with how well we played,” said senior Andrea Orvieto.

With this “New England Patriots” type season, winning at districts would be the perfect ending to this surprising 17-2 season. “We have a good shot at winning districts and that would put the icing on the cake for this season,” said Captain Lenni Jo Yarchin, “No one thought we would go anywhere at the beginning of the season and now we are talking about winning Districts.”

A win in Districts will mean they’ll have to be prepared to play their hardest regardless of who their opponent is. “We beat Miami Springs High earlier so we thought we could just relax and win this game. We didn’t play our best and for that we lost,” said Orvieto, “In districts we have to play our hardest in every game if we are going to have a shot to win.”

The girls’ team is young and plan on learning from this season and becoming a true powerhouse next year. “If we are this good with a core of players who haven’t been together for all that long imagine how we will be after playing together for an entire year,” said Yarchin. “Teams will be watching out for us next year.”
