Soon enough, as students enter school, they will be woken up by something new and exciting. A butterfly garden, located on the south lawn of the school, has been built with the help of our Science Honor Society and Ecology Club to grow and prosper.

From the garden, students at Krop will benefit by being provided with a new quiet space to sit and think.

Students will have the choice of reading or studying in a park environment. The garden will be completely educational. Information stands will be posted throughout the garden to learn about the different plants and butterflies. Not only does it serve its purpose to educate the students, but to also create a unique environment our school has yet to experience.

The garden was initially thought of by senior, Parijata Mackey: “I can’t wait to get this project started; it will be great for everyone” said Mackey.

The unique part about the butterfly garden is going to be that there will be no fences surrounding the butterflies to keep them trapped or confined. “That’s the beauty of it: the butterflies will be naturally attracted to the plants deposited around the garden”, Science Honor Society adviser David Buncher said.

Donations, such as money and supplies, and fundraisers by both clubs will help the garden reach its highest potential. With high aspirations for the garden, the butterfly garden will bring something new and enjoyable for the students here at school.
