The girls’ tennis team looks forward to defending their state championship. On the other hand, the boys’ team hopes to regain their championship ranking.

Coach Michael Kypriss’ players hope to be successful both on and off the court by following his philosophy which stresses love for one’s family, spiritual faith, academics, athletics and a social life.

Kypriss will depend on his top players this year: seniors Mark Schanerman, Billy Federhofer and Alec Krantz, juniors Brittany Dubins, Leonardo Torrellas and Akemi Maehama and freshman Sonia Latycheva. However, freshmen Shea Brodsky, Brittany Henry and Rolando Torrelles look to be promising players, who Kypriss believes are more than capable of handling the pressure.

Team goals, however, not only stress winning championships. Kypriss says their goals are the same as every year: to get seniors scholarships, achieve academic success in the classroom and give back to the community.

This year the team held a charity tournament for Brucie Ball, Coach Larry Ball’s wife, who passed away with cancer last spring. Money will go towards a college scholarship for ESE students.

Kypriss hopes to add to an already stellar coaching career of 13 tennis state championships.

"The girls’ can go for the hat-trick of three in a row," Kypriss said, "while the boys can make it four of the past six years; a terrific accomplishment for both squads."
