On Christmas day a local family suffered a tragedy. While most people were celebrating the holidays, the Williams family faced the reality that their house was burning while they were inside.

Ashley Sue Williams, mother of two, and Lydia Rayne Williams both suffered second degree burns and respiratory complications. Steven (Trip) Williams III suffered second and third degree burns. Miraculously, Steven Thomas Williams II, father of the two children, was not touched by the fire. When the fire fighters arrived on the scene, they managed to get everyone out safely. Ashley and Lydia were both sent to Parkview Regional Hospital in Mexia to begin recovering from their injuries. However, Trip was in a critical condition when he was taken out of the house. Local fire fighters said “Trip was still breathing when we got him out of the house, but he was struggling very hard.” Two hours after this occurred, Steven passed away.

Trip’s viewing was held on Friday, December 29th from 6:00-8:00p.m. His funeral services were held the following day, December 31, at the First Baptist Church in Teague at 2: 00p.m. After this, the funeral services continued at Dew Cemetery where Trip was buried. Sincere condolences are offered to the family of the victims.

Thank you for your prayers and concern for our family during our time of grief. The entire community poured out their hearts to us, and we truly appreciate everything that has been done for us. It is for this reason that I would like to put some peoples concerns to rest. Steven "Trip" was not burned, we have been assured that he was asleep when the fire broke out and was overtaken by the smoke. Also Lydia Rayne only suffered a burn approximately the size of a quarter under her left arm. All of her burns were from the smoke inhalation. My husband and myself were able to bring her home on March 1, 2012. To this point she is making a lot of progress, learning to talk again, learning some basic motor skills. Doctors tell us that they are more than optimistic that it is only a matter of time before she is running and singing again. Once again I would like to thank everyone for taking an interest in our family's story. Teague Texas is a very small, very close knit community, and thank God for that; because during times of need and tragedy we pull together for each other. We are blessed to live here and I am proud to call this place my home.
