Teague High School

At-a-glance

She is the one who sees the whole field, she holds the framing of each pitch, and she knows the game like the back of her hand. Her name is Emily Fuqua. This Teague High School senior was a four year starter on the Teague Varsity Softball team. As a rookie, Fuqua started off at second base and was a natural at it so she continued her position at second through her sophomore year. When she became a junior, there were open positions that needed to be filled. Coach Eric Walker knew she would work hard in any position he put her in, and so came her career as the catcher.

Fuqua not only learned the new position of catcher for her team, but perfected her skill and won first team all district catcher her junior year. This year she is expected to get more awards, but the results have not come out yet from the all district meeting. The girls on the Teague softball team looked up to Fuqua because of her talent and hustle that she held through each practice, tournament, and game. This year she not only had the position of catcher, but also leadoff batter. As leadoff, Fuqua could always get the sticks rolling which encouraged her teammates during their turn in the box.

When this softball season came to a close, Fuqua was slightly disappointed in how her senior year ended because the team did not make it to playoffs. However the disappointment did not last long because she knew it was not the end for her, only the beginning. Emily Fuqua has attended “tryout” days at several colleges where the coaches took a look at her skill and offered her a position on the team. She is overjoyed to know that she will be able to play ball for a few more years, she is now searching for where. A couple of the colleges that are interested in welcoming Fuqua to their team are Lonnie Morris and Tyler Junior College.

Fuqua is ready to carry on her ambitious roll as a softball player, and will carry on the hard work and love of the game in her next stage of life. She maintains her work ethic through playing each game as if it was her last, but she knows that this is only the beginning of something great.
