As cheerleading Co-Captains, Sarah Waldrip and Lindsay Hayes are in charge of making sure that everything the squad does is in order and running smoothly. During homecoming week their role on the squad was most crucial.

This homecoming, the cheerleaders did not get to do as many events as they usually do because of the move into the new school. On Friday, they did visit all of the day cares in Teague, and stopped by the Elementary School to see the kids there. Then later that day they held the Homecoming pep rally.

During the pep rally the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior High Cheerleaders all mixed together to perform a dance for the audience. In the dance, there were many stunts that the cheerleaders had to perfect before the pep rally.

“We practiced with all of the squads. We had three five hour practices to get the whole routine together. It was pretty difficult because the squads were mixed, but it was worth it,” said Waldrip.

The co-captains have both been cheerleaders for six years now, and have had some memorable moments on the squad. Hayes mentioned some of the moments that she will miss most about the squad.

“I am going to miss all the sideline talk! We have some crazy [conversations]! I’ll also miss my girls! We’ve had a great year and we’ve all gotten so close,” said Hayes.

Waldrip also shared some of her memorable moments that she will never forget about her cheerleading career.

“This summer we went to Great Wolf Lodge for cheerleading camp. The squad really bonded and had fun together, so that week was very memorable. [Also], every game with the squad is fun and memorable,” said Waldrip.

Of course, like with any team or squad, cheerleaders have their favorite and least favorite things about cheerleading.

“My favorite thing about cheerleading is being in front of the crowd and cheering the boys on, win or lose. [My] least favorite thing is the long bus rides we have to take this year. They are worth it though,” said Waldrip.

Some cheerleaders, though, only have favorite memories that they will cherish, and do not remember anything that they did not like about being a cheerleader.

“[My favorite thing would be] being in front of all the people, and rooting the boys on,” replied Hayes.

Some cheerleading captains might, if given the opportunity to, change many things about their squad. However, these girls feel grateful to have had the group that they have this year.

“I wouldn’t change one thing about the squad. We all work well together and get along. It has been by far the best year of cheerleading,” said Waldrip.
