Bam!! Shots rang out on a cold day in March. Everyone could hardly believe what was going on. The day is March 29, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee and Dr. King has just been shot.  King had went to Tennessee to help out with black sanitary works employees to try to help them getting higher work wages and better treatment.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta GA. He was the son of Rev. Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta King. Both Dr. King and his father were formerly known as Michael until they made a family trip to Germany and changed their names to Martin after a Protestant leader in Germany.  Dr. King had two siblings, an older sister, Willie, and a younger brother, Alfred. At the age of twenty four, Dr. King married Coretta Scott on the lawn of her parent’s house. Together, him and Coretta had four children and he became pastor at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery AL.

Dr. King was only 39 when he was shot. Dr. King’s famous speeches changed America forever and will always be remembered. Dr. King was considered a “true American” because he fought for what he thought was right and brought justice to the American people. Dr. King may be gone but his legacy will live on forever.
