The Teague Lions hit the field against the Groesbeck Goats on September 4, 2009, hoping to display a great performance for their home town. Unfortunately this would not be so. The Goats would go on to outscore the Lions 47 to 0.

            The Goats’ defense took advantage of the Lions’ offensive mistakes, holding them to a total of 80 yards. One of those mistakes included a fumble recovery by the Goats on the Lions’ first series of plays. The Lions’ defense also had a disappointing performance allowing the Goats 34 points in the first half. The Lions’ defensive backs had the biggest letdown, allowing the Goats three touchdowns through the air including one for 59 yards.

            Coach Harris admits that he did not expect this performance from his team; on the contrary, he expected to be on the benefiting end of this outcome. He believes that the team did not play to their full potential and did not put forth the effort that he knows they have. Coach Harris also says that before they can defeat anyone else, the Lions must first beat themselves.
