Every senior that plans to attend college probably needs some kind of scholarship.  However, many seniors do not know where to start.  The first to make it to college is applying.  Students can easily apply to the schools of their choice online at www.applytexas.org (Texas schools only).  The apply Texas application is simple to fill out and the specific school may require applicants to write an essay.  Some schools also prefer that the applicant send in a resume, but that is generally optional.

Scholarships are brought into Mrs. Burger’s office as soon as they are available.  She posts copies for everyone to take, so they have the opportunity to apply for the scholarship.  Make sure you qualify for the scholarship before you fill it out. Qualifications for scholarships are usually found on the first page of a scholarship.  Also check the due date of the scholarship to make sure it has not already passed.  Here is a list of several of the scholarships currently available:

            Entrepreneurial Scholarship                                                  Jan 25

            Texas Student Housing                                                       Jan 31

Navarro College “Blue is the Color of Dreams”                          Feb 1

            KFC Colonel’s Scholarship                                                     Feb 10

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award                    March 6

Charles, Lela, and Mary Slough Foundation                              March 29

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund                              March 31

Young Men For Christ                                                          May 1

For the financial aid portion of college, an online form called the FAFSA needs to be filled out.  A personal PIN number is needed o access this online form, to get your PIN number go to www.pin.ed.gov .To access the actual financial aid form, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov, and have all tax information ready.   It is also important to know the financial aid deadlines for the school of your choice.

High school juniors need to be looking at colleges to see if they qualify with their PSAT scores. For more information on applying for college or scholarships, contact Carrie Burger at cburger@teagueisd.org .
