This year’s Lady Lion softball team is off to a good start.  The team’s first official practice was Tuesday, February 2nd.  They have their first scrimmage on February 5^th against Fairfield.  It will be a tough match considering the girls will only have three days of practice under their belts.

      Once again, it is looking like the Lady Lions are only going to have enough players for a varsity squad.  This presents a challenge for the current freshmen as they will be thrown into a high level of play from day one.  The team has several returning starters to lead the team this year, such as seniors, Chelsea Pectol, Summer Moore, and Ami Cotton; juniors, Jordie Watson, and Micah Sandlin; and sophomores, Kallista Whiteside and Emily Fuqua.  The team has some good players returning and will have a strong base to build on. 

        Head coach Eric Walker is looking forward to a good season.  He believes, “If the team plays to their abilities, they will do well and go far, we are hoping for a strong playoff run.”  This year the softball team has yet another assistant coach, Brooke Smith. She was a former all-district Lady Lion herself and has a lot to offer in coaching this team.  “She knows the game and will definitely be an asset to the team this year,” says Coach Walker.
