The crew and cast for Juvie won regionals on October 15 in Wagoner under the restraints of 45 minutes for set-up, performance and take-down.

Not only did the group bring home first place, they also won Regional Outstanding Tech/Stage Crew.

“We were very accurate and worked as a team,” said junior Becca Buchleiter.

Some of the crewmembers won the special recognition of All-Star Cast Member- senior Sydney Jennings, junior Baron Campbell, senior Juliette Lloyd, junior Michael Cambiano and junior Angel Peck. Senior Sydney Jennings who played Jean explains how she was able to get this award above the rest of the competition.

“I thought of the background of my character. I came up with a story of how she got to prison,” said Jennings.

Juvie was a good choice to allow the judges to witness difficult acting, according to drama teacher Michael Peters.

“It was a great ensemble piece which gave all the actors a chance to explore complex characters and relationships,” said Peters.

To achieve this feat, the cast and crew practiced 2-4 hours after school for six weeks.

“I’m so impressed by the way my cast and crew focuses on the performance and tries to make every performance better than the last,” said Peters.

From this achievement, the group advanced to state on October 29 at Bixby High School.

“We went from not placing to winning regionals and going to state,” said Jennings.
