Resident Evil is one of Capcom’s greatest franchises to ever hit the market. It is about a group of people who vow to put an end to the secret experiments of the giant pharmaceutical company, Umbrella, and an evil madman, Albert Wesker. For almost ten years, Capcom has been adding new ideas for the Resident Evil series, each one better than the last. Of course, there were a few changes made along the way as the series grew more and more popular.
In Resident Evil 4, there are no more zombies to kill, just people being possessed by a parasite called Las Plagas. Even though zombies are much more fun to fight against, possessed humans are just as suspenseful. The same thing occurs in Resident Evil 5, more humans, no zombies. Perhaps Capcom will bring zombies back in later games with more monsters, weapons, puzzles, twists, turns, romance and secrets revealed.
Sometime in 2007, Capcom came up with a game that contains some of the events of a few of the Resident Evil games: Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 3 and an untold story behind the fall of Umbrella. The game was made as an arcade-style rail shooter game in which the character walks and runs, and all you do is shoot enemies. The game was named Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. In 2009, Capcom created a sequel to The Umbrella Chronicles, a game that included some of the events of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil: Code Veronica and an untold story starring Leon S. Kennedy and his friend-turned-enemy, Jack Krauser. The sequel game was named Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. There are some more zombies and some remade monsters such as Lickers, zombie dogs, a gigantic alligator and a strange shape-shifting creature. There are also some fierce issues in this game that are not like The Umbrella Chronicles: zombies can run, the bosses are even harder to beat, and yes, the graphics are not as good as they were in Resident Evil 5. Yet, both games turned out to be very successful and hit video games.
Nobody knows what is going to happen next in the Resident Evil world, but I hope that all the unanswered questions will finally be answered. Perhaps Capcom will either finally bring zombies back as the main enemies, or stick with brainwashed humans. Who knows, maybe Capcom will come up with a game featuring the events of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5 and another untold story starring woman of mystery Ada Wong and escaped fugitive Billy Coen and call it Resident Evil: The Redemption Chronicles. It is true I have played all of the Resident Evil games except for Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil: the Darkside Chronicles, but I am still a huge fan. Gamers, such as me, and many other critics out there give Resident Evil of the Capcom family a ten out of ten.
